The
Pilates Method
The Pilates Method was developed by
Joseph Hubertus Pilates who was born in
Dusseldorf, Germany, in 1880. Based on
his great interest in Asian martial arts
and Yoga as well as his enthusiasm for
any kind of workout, Joseph Hubertus
Pilates taught an individual fitness
program and an efficient symbiosis of
breathing, movement and strength.
To strengthen the abdominal muscles and
improve body control, Joseph Hubertus
Pilates developed a series of floor
exercises called
“Contrology“, which are
nowadays widely known as the Pilates
Method.
With time, variations have been developed
and adjusted to new insights and
circumstances. The stretching and
strengthening exercises result in strong,
toned muscles, a better posture and
greater flexibility.
For a number of years, fitness centres
have started to include Pilates and
Pilates combined with Yoga in their class
schedules. As a consequence, the teaching
method for this advanced Pilates method
needs to be adjusted to the new
circumstances so that concentration,
strength, movement, breathing and
endurance may perfectly complement one
another.
The Pilates Method is a unique exercise
regimen that integrates the connection of
body and mind to promote a full bodily
awareness. Dedicated practice in the
technique enhances physical equilibrium,
strength, flexibility, and mobility all
the while relaxing and balancing the
mind. art of motion offers certified further education
courses, workshops and
master classes as well as
Pilates specific coaching.
